Minister

Senator Dr. The Hon. Jerome Xavier Walcott, FRCS, JP

As chief diplomat, the Minister is responsible for the implementation of Barbados’ foreign policy, the management of its international relations and leads the promotion of its interests overseas.

Jerome Xavier Walcott was born on April 2, 1957 in Barbados. Raised in Bridgetown and educated at St. Angela’s Primary School and the Lodge School, Barbados, he later graduated from the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus, Jamaica.

Dr. Walcott is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of Edinburgh and a Justice of the Peace. Outside of politics, he has served as a Medical Doctor, Consultant Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Associate Lecturer and Examiner for Final Surgery Exams at the University of the West Indies. He was also Interim Executive Director of CARPHA.

Minister Walcott’s management skills have been called on repeatedly in both public and private agencies, from school boards to the Barbados Family Planning Association and National Insurance Medical tribunal. He also served with distinction as Minister of Health, as Deputy Chairman of the Sanitation Service Authority, Chairman of the Transport Board and President of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners, (BAMP). Additionally, he remains a member of the Barbados Agricultural Society, (BAS), Barbados Cricket Association, (BCA) and the Barbados Cancer Society.

Minister Walcott remains committed to promoting friendship and cooperation between Barbados and other countries around the world, through political and diplomatic channels; providing effective representation of the Government of Barbados overseas through resident diplomatic missions, consular and honorary consular posts and creating opportunities for foreign trade and investment.

The Minister is also focused on protecting the interests of Barbadian nationals living and studying overseas, returning residents and visitors to Barbados.
